What do you do for Independent Vets?
I make sure that our IndeVets and client hospitals have the best experience possible with Independent Vets. We believe strongly in supporting our doctors, making sure they can find balance and satisfaction in their work lives, while providing amazing, highly competent services to animal hospitals.
Who are you?
I’m a Philly guy who was born in NYC. I’ve lived in Philadelphia since graduating from Northwestern University in 1993. My first career was as a print journalist— covering Penn State football for the Associated Press, Cherry Hill municipal government for the Philadelphia Inquirer, and writing about racial profiling on the New Jersey Turnpike for the Newark Star-Ledger.
In 2000 I co-founded a dot-com startup with a friend— and I fell in love with business. Since then I’ve started several businesses and worked in private equity. Since 2010, I’ve been working in animal health. I co-founded Community Veterinary Partners, a family of animal hospitals, and in 2018, founded Independent Vets.
My wife, Jenny, and I live near Center City with our two sons, Maxon and Ezra. Our two cats, Obi and Kit, pretty much run the house. In addition to attending a number of kids’ baseball games, tennis matches and musical performances, I like to workout in HIIT programs, read about and buy cool technology products. I’m the only skier in the house— everyone else snowboards—but they still let me down the slopes with them.
What’s your favorite candy?
It’s a tie – Twix or Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup.
